Following up on our message from last week regarding our Company’s commitment to social justice, equality and inclusion, we solicited input from our team and aligned together on 3 immediate actions we believe will make a meaningful difference.
Here is our plan
Closing Early on Election Day and Providing Paid Time Off to Vote
In an effort to ensure our associates have the opportunity to vote, we will close all of our thousands of stores in the U.S. for half a day and provide paid time off to our associates on Election Day every November. We will also strive to be flexible with other needs of our associates for local, state and federal elections.
We believe voting is one of the most important channels to effect change, and we want to provide our associates with the opportunity to get out and vote their values.
Growing Our Partnerships with and Expanding Our Offering of Black-Owned Beauty Brands
As a significant part of our history, growth and current assortment, our Sally Beauty division has partnered with an extensive group of Black-owned beauty brands. Today, these include:
- Bronner Brothers
- Camille Rose
- Vernon Francois
- Puff Cuff
- Design Essentials
- Rucker Roots
- Taliah Waajid
- Curly Kids
- Eden Body Works
- Hick’s Total Transformation
- Honey Baby Naturals
- Kenya Moore
- Kinky Curly
- Kurlee Belle
- Made Beautiful
- Diva by Cindy
- The Doux
- Urban Hydration
To continue our successful relationships and growth with Black-owned brands, we commit to significantly expanding our offering in both our Sally Beauty and CosmoProf divisions by the end of 2021. We will identify our specific targets after we have assessed our current assortment of products and identified new potential Black-owned and focused brands and products to offer through dialogue with our current and potential partners and associates.
We also commit to enhancing the shelf space and in-store experience dedicated to these important products and increasing how prominently these brands and products feature in our marketing, on our websites and in our social media.
Training & Education
We must go beyond the required or common anti-discrimination and anti-harassment training. To do so, we are enhancing our existing partnership with The Nova Collective, a Black and woman-owned diversity, equity and inclusion consulting company.
This summer, along with Nova, we will begin our education efforts with training focused on defining diversity and identity, as well as holding space for meaningful conversations, with our associates at every level. These trainings will help empower our associates with the tools and resources to gain a deeper understanding of these concepts so they feel ready to be a part of this positive change. These initial trainings will set the stage for later development focused on more complex topics, such as unconscious bias.
We believe listening and engaging in meaningful conversations on these issues is so crucial, and we plan to teach our leaders, business partners and our Diversity & Inclusion Council how to engage in meaningful conversations to shift behaviors within our teams focused on racial justice, equality in the community and within our company and more.
Ultimately, we want every associate and customer to feel welcome, respected and valued when they interact with our Company. We will dedicate the time, effort and resources to ensure our teams are trained on what we expect from them – and what our customers expect from us.
This is only the beginning. There will be more to come. We commit to continue to listen, learn and take further action. We know a key part of this is that we listen to our Black associates regarding their frustrations, pain and fear, as well as their ideas and hopes for the future. We will continue to take our associates’ input and turn it into further commitments and action, in collaboration with our teams.
Thank you for your continued support as we work together to improve our Company and our country,
